Second Grade

Ms. OkermanWelcome to the Second Grade Home Page!

Hello, my name is Mrs. Okerman. I am the 2nd grade teacher at IC Catholic School. I have been teaching for sixteen years. I taught in the public school system for ten years before taking time off to stay home and raise my children. This is my sixth year at IC School. I completed my Bachelors Degree in Education with a minor in Early Childhood Education at the University of North Dakota. My Multiple-Subject Clear Credential was completed at Cal Poly Pomona. My husband Bob and I have been married for thirty-one years. We have three boys, two in college and the other a recent graduate of Arizona State University. As a family we enjoy the outdoors: camping, hiking, water sports, and snow skiing. We also enjoy working in our yard together, traveling and trying out new restaurants. Teaching children over the years has truly been inspiring and rewarding. However, teaching at IC School has been even more so. I consider it a gift to be able to go in to work each day knowing that I have the opportunity to make a difference in children’s lives, to teach them about their Catholic Faith and prepare them to make their First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion.

Miss Nan Mohr

Greetings!  My name is Miss Nan Mohr.  The students sometimes call me Miss Nan because for the past two years, I’ve volunteered as morning day care supervisor, given music classes and served as a substitute teacher here at IC.  I have been teaching for more than thirty years.  I have had the privilege of  guiding children and young adults in their learning in the public schools, Catholic and Christian Schools.  I taught fifth and sixth grades for thirteen years, second grade for three years and have “subbed” in grades 1-8.  I graduated from Immaculate Heart College with a Bachelor of Arts, and received my Master Degree from United States International University.  I’ve worked extensively with children and adults who want to learn English. I have tutored in Language Arts, Writing, and Test Preparation.  I have lived in Monrovia since 1994 and this community feels like home.

What a blessing it is to have the opportunity to continue to teach here at IC with Mrs. Okerman. This year we will “share teach.”  Our aim is that our second grade students will grow in knowledge and grace, knowing the love of God more fully each day.
